Young Chef of the Year Contest 2018

Bookatable by Michelin partners with M Restaurants to launch the M & Bookatable Young Chef of the Year Awards, in association with Champagne Pommery.

For the second year, M Restaurants are launching a search for the finest young talent, working in the kitchens of the UK.
If you are under 29 years old and working in a kitchen, they would love to celebrate having you in the hospitality industry and to invite you to enter their nationwide competition.

Young, up-and-coming chefs will be asked to create menus that represent their own personality and style. The top 50 entrants will be invited to M Victoria to cook their signature dish and present their menu in May to the panel of judges.

A member of the judging panel and Michael will be present every night to score the young chef on the same criteria to form 50% of each finalist’s score. The remaining 50% will be awarded by the paying diners each evening.

This year Executive Chef (and i-Chef Industry Panel Leader) Michael Reid and M Founder Martin Williams will be joined by judges including Andy Lynes, Daniel Watkins, Claudio Cardoso, Adam Handling, Jose Pizarro, Michael Wignall, Selin Kiazim, Cyrus Todiwala and Tom Kemble.
 

How to Enter

Entrants will need to submit:

  • • A 4 course menu that will be sold for £45 per person.
  • • COS for the menu needs to no higher than 30%, you need to show your costings*
  • • Need to demonstrate an ability to market your pop up nights*

(*Martin and Michael with mentor you on the marketing and costing elements.)

The top 50 entrants will be invited to M Victoria St to cook their signature dish and talk through their menu 20 Chefs will be selected to host a ‘Pop Up Night’ in their name at M Victoria St, where they will cook their menu with the M chefs to be served to 50 covers in the Raw Restaurant which will be their restaurant for the night.

After regional heats, the top twenty finalists will be invited to host a ‘Pop Up’ night at M Victoria St in our RAW restaurant in July. The Winner and Runner Up will both be invited to ‘Take-Over’ the restaurant for a week, will win a trip with Pommery to Champagne and much more…
