On Wednesday 17th Sept, DDP continued its support of the prestigious ACE (Association of Catering Excellence) ‘Ready Steady Cook’ event at The Imperial College, London. The competition is for 30 chefs cooking against the clock in front of a live audience. DDP supplied each of the teams with a mystery box of fruit and vegetables, enabling their talents to be unleashed in creating a high quality dish in a very short period of time.
Alongside this, at the DDP display, we were keen to show a very knowledgeable audience something they had firstly not seen before and secondly not tasted before – not an easy task with fresh produce! Incredible carvings from fresh fruit & vegetables including, sweet potato-peacocks, pineapple-parrots, beetroot-poppies and even the ACE Ready Steady Cook logo carved into a watermelon! All of these certainly caught the eye, together with the live carving demo’s. Alongside this were some herbs and leaves most of the room had never tasted, including Banana Mint, Sweetcorn Shoots, Butterfly Sorrel, Aztec Mint, Chocolate Mint, Micro Russian Kale and Micro Cavalo Nero. Some really different items, but all grown in the UK together with the fantastic berries, apples, squash and other produce on show, again, all British.
Objective achieved at a fantastic event organised by ACE, which DDP is proud to support.
